Westminster, Maryland (May 16, 2020): Important deadlines for the 2020 Presidential Primary elections are approaching. To vote in the upcoming presidential primary election, Maryland residents who are eligible to vote but are not yet registered – including 17-year-olds who will be 18 years old on or before the November 3rd Presidential General Election– should register by 5:00 pm on Wednesday, May 27, 2020.  This is also the last day for registered voters to change their party affiliation. Voters can check to see if they are registered by visiting: voterservices.elections.maryland.gov/VoterSearch.

Carroll County residents with a Maryland driver’s license or MVA-issued ID may register to vote, change their address, or change their party affiliation online at voterservices.elections.maryland.gov/OnlineVoterRegistration

 Voters and members of the military, their spouses and dependents who are overseas and who do not have a Maryland driver’s license or MVA-issued ID, may also register or change their address or party affiliation online using different identifying information. 

Paper voter registration applications must be mailed or hand-delivered to the Carroll County Board of Elections.  The Board of Elections is currently closed to the public, but can accept a hand-delivered application by appointment only until 5:00 pm on May 27, 2020 and a mailed application must be postmarked by May 27.

Individuals who miss the May 27th deadline to register will have the opportunity to register to vote at a vote center on Election Day (June 2). To register to vote on Election Day, individuals need to go to a vote center and bring a document that proves where they live.  This can be an MVA-issued license, ID card, or change of address card, paycheck, bank statement, utility bill, or other government documents that includes the voter’s name and address.

Vote Centers available in Carroll County are located at the Westminster Senior Activities Center (125 Stoner Avenue, Westminster) and the South Carroll Swim Club (1900 W Liberty Road Westminster). They will be available on June 2 from 7:00 am until 8:00 pm. All social distancing guidelines will be followed.
