Landfill Requires Credit Cards or Checks Only and County Closes Hoods Mill Landfill
Westminster, MD, Tuesday, March 31, 2020 – The Carroll County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously today on two significant changes affecting customers of Carroll County landfills in order to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Operations at the Hoods Mill Landfill are immediately suspended until further notice and effective immediately, the Northern Landfill will only accept credit cards or checks; no cash will be accepted. Minimizing public contact helps limit the spread of COVID-19 and protects everyone’s health. To help mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in our community, residents and businesses of Carroll County are asked to avoid all non-essential outings and close contact.
Effective immediately, and lasting during this State of Emergency, Visa and Mastercard credit cards, as well as checks, are required for payment at the Northern Landfill. Also, all access to Hoods Mill Landfill is suspended at this time. The site will be closed Saturday, April 4th and all future dates, until further notice.
As previously requested, residents should please wait until the State of Emergency is lifted before conducting waste and recycling errands that can be delayed. Another option is for residents to contract for curbside waste and recycling pickup through a local hauler. A list of licensed haulers can be found on the county’s website at https://www.carrollcountymd.gov/government/directory/public-works/office-of-recycling/trash-and-recycling-pickup/residential-curb-side-haulers/ or through your local phone directory.
Thank you for your assistance with this matter. All actions are precautionary to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19). Any future changes to landfill operations will be announced on the county website and social media.
Today’s Open Session is available for viewing on the county meeting portal and the county YouTube channel. In addition, all meetings will be replayed on Comcast Channel 24.
